Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

The beautiful state of Oregon has, over the past few decades, become increasingly well known and respected for its wine industry, with several small but significant wineries within the state receiving world wide attention for the quality of their produce. Whilst the first vineyards within Oregon were planted in the 1840s, the state's wine industry didn't really take off until the 1960s, when several wine producers from California discovered that the cooler regions of the state were ideal for cultivating various fine grape varietals. Today, Oregon has over four hundred and fifty wineries in operation, the vast majority of which are used for the production of wines made from Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir varietal grapes, both of which thrive in the valleys and mountainsides which characterise the landscape of the state.

Very deep and spicy nose with great strawberry and red currant fruit, plus a slew of delicately spicy aromas. Then comes the rich and concentrated medium-bodied palate that is seriously elegant. Long, compact and very well-structured finish. From this producer’s estate vineyard that is at a high altitude with volcanic basalt soil. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

The star in the eye of the dragon, the 2022 Pinot Noir Rastaban comes from the estate vineyard and sports a ruby hue in the glass. Its notes of dark, sweet, mixed berries, crushed flowers, forest herbs, and spiced orange are followed by a medium-bodied red that carries a lovely electric energy, with wonderful ripeness to tie it together. It has a lot of crystalline purity and good length on the finish, with ripe tannins. It’s delicious now and will age with ease over the coming 10 years.

The Rastaban Pinot Noir from Brooks Wine is a full-bodied red wine that showcases vibrant flavors of wild strawberries, cherry cola, and red currants. It concludes with delightful notes of Luxardo cherry and pomegranate syrup. This wine is sourced from the Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon, utilizing three distinct Pinot Noir clones: Pommard, 115, and 777. The grapes are cultivated in volcanic basalt-nekia soil and are farmed using biodynamic practices. The name "Rastaban" is derived from a star in the Draco constellation, reflecting the mythology and astrology themes that were significant in Jimi Brooks' early winemaking endeavors.
