Considered a superior vintage, high in quality and quantity, the balanced, medium-bodied 2016 Gran Reserva underscores the point, made from estate bush-trained vineyards in clay-limestone soils. The Tempranillo is brightened by 2% Graciano, resulting in a smooth, spicy, elegant expression of leathery black fruit and roasted coffee, with the silky tannins and structure to age another 25 years.

The 2016 Reserva shows ripeness and jammy fruit with plenty of spice and a powerful, full-bodied palate. It has 14.4% alcohol and a pH of 3.66. They used a little new oak here, 20%, with used 50/50 French and American oak barrels for the aging of 18 months. This was a superb vintage, with quality and quantity, a cooler year with more freshness, and the wines seem to be evolving at a slower pace. It's harmonious and clean, classical and expressive, spicy, with a polished palate and resolved tannins. It is fine-boned, more elegant and has a very good balance—a textbook traditional Reserva from a very good year. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020.

A lovely red, with weight and concentration to the creamed black cherry, plum skin, mineral, lavender and herb notes, plus fine, sculpted tannins. This also shows a sense of poise and fluid grace. Long and fragrant on the lightly spiced finish. Tempranillo and Graciano. Drink now through 2036. 3,500 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.

A lovely gran reserva that has lots of fruit, peppery spices, vanilla and touches of balsamic and tobacco. Excellent acidity, with a medium body and firm, dusty tannins. Very long and bright, with some sweet spices that aren't overpowering. Drink or hold.
