Matt’s Summer 2025 Wines to Remember
Here are some of the wines that I tasted this summer that stayed with me well beyond the moment—wines I kept revisiting in my mind. The Tronquoy, K Vintners, and DeLille will transition nicely into Fall as the temperature drops. The other 3 just make me think of warm, summer days.
Fratelli Alessandria Verduno Pelaverga “Speziale” 2024
This was my first (that I can recall) experience with Pelaverga, and where has this been? Oh, right—almost none is made and even less exported. This was chilled to probably 60 degrees, and that is how it should be consumed. A light, spicy, beautiful Italian red.
Château Tronquoy Saint-Estèphe 2022
Did I drink it too young? Sure did. Will it be better in 2030? You bet. Did I regret it? Not for one second. Rich and decadent, yet completely approachable now. This is both a keeper and a drinker. Sold out now, we will have more soon.
DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc 2023
I have had my eye on this WA cult(y) winery’s white blend for almost 20 years and finally pulled the cord. Should not have waited. This is what I want white Rhone to taste like all the time, but it rarely achieves it. I will be sad when this vintage is gone.
