Red Bordeaux

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. Shows notable plushness (for the vintage) as its blood orange and raspberry compote notes move through slowly, flecked liberally with red tea, savory and incense. Fruit hangs on nicely though the wood spice–accented finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2027 through 2037. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 835 cases made, 110 cases imported.

Coming from gravelly clay and sandy soils, the 2023 Château La Clémence offers uber-ripe black cherries, plums, candied violets, chocolate, and incense-like aromatics. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and aged in 60% new French oak, it's nicely concentrated and medium to full-bodied on the palate, with ample ripeness and a round, generous mouthfeel. I'm not entirely sure about the overall balance here, but it comes together nicely with time in the glass. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade or so. Drink 2028-2037.
