This has an attractive nose of blackberries and dried flowers, complemented by tobacco and cedar undertones. The palate is balanced, with substantial dark fruit framed by linear freshness and fine-grained tannins. Best from 2027.
The 2023 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is terrific. Beautifully perfumed and light on its feet, the Pavillon is all class. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, white pepper and blood orange all grace the palate. The balance here is built on finesse, restraint and subtlety.
Some herbal tones on the nose, green cabernet markers, menthol, liquorice and bramble fruit. Rich and ripe, a feeling of plush fruit with gorgeous soft tannins. A touch of spice and real lick of graphite, liquorice and cedar gives the spiced aspect around the sides of the mouth but this has lots of freshness too. Lifted and pure. Really nicely framed. Juicy and easy. Not so layered, but equally very easy going. Feels like they've taken the foot off the pedal, which is totally right and suits the estate - more finesse on show than usual in this second wine. 6% Petit Verdot completes the blend.
Deep purple-hued, the 2023 Pavillon De Léoville Poyferré has a beautiful nose of crème de cassis, graphite, spicy wood, and smoky tobacco nuances. Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot and aged 18 months in second-fill French oak barrels, it's medium to full-bodied and round, with a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel and sweet tannins. This beautiful second wine will drink nicely for 10-15 years or more. Drink 2026-2040.
90-91 The 2023 Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is charming and expressive, bursting with aromas of dark berries, orange zest, plums and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's layered and polished, in contrast to the chunkier, punchier grand vin.
