One of my favorites of the vintage, the 2023 Doisy-Vedrines is superb, revealing a lively, complex and perfumed bouquet of pineapple, orange zest, spices, honey and ripe orchard fruits, accented by subtle minty nuances. Medium- to full-bodied, generous and enveloping, it remains vibrant and tensile, structured by refined gastronomic bitterness and concluding with a long, ethereal finish that is distinctly Barsac in character. Containing 150 grams per liter of residual sugar, the blend comprises 90% Sémillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

93-95 The 2023 Doisy-Védrines doesn't quite deliver the complexity of the Doisy-Daëne on the nose, though it opens nicely with aeration to reveal lemon sherbet, saffron and light tangerine aromas. It is not as immediate as other Sauternes in this vintage, but it does exude elegance. The palate is well balanced with a very pure, tensile opening. This seems to be a less "fat" Doisy-Védrines compared to other vintages, possessing a fine bead of acidity. It’s lightly spiced with a tang of marmalade and quince toward the finish. This is a noble Barsac in the making.

93-95+ A blend of 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2023 Doisy-Vedrines has 150 g/l of residual sugar and a pH of 3.7. It has a pale lemon-straw color and slowly emerges from the glass with evocative scents of lemon meringue pie, fresh pineapples, and sea spray, leading to hints of cinnamon and jasmine tea. The palate is concentrated, densely laden with tropical fruit and spicy accents, framed by just enough freshness, finishing long and chalky. Very pretty!

Sporting a medium gold hue, the 2023 Château Doisy-Vedrines offers classic aromatics of caramelized orange, spicy wood, buttered toast, and mint. It's beautiful on the palate as well, with medium-bodied richness, a pure, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's rock solid and clearly outstanding. I like it today, yet it should keep nicely for 20-30 years. Drink 2026-2056.

Winery Notes

Vivid, quite intense nose with a spicy savoury twist to the sweet expressive fruit. The sweet palate has a nice intensity, with butterscotch and caramel alongside the apricotty botrytis notes. Quite plump and lush.
