Grattamacco

Grattamacco was founded in 1977 as one of the first two wineries in Bolgheri. In a region typically known for Cabernet and Merlot, Grattamacco set itself apart by being the first in the area to plant Sangiovese. Its inclusion imparts elegance to the wines, which are also known for their power and complexity that evolves with time.

Located at about 330 feet above sea level, in a well-protected plot that spans over one of Bolgheri’s only two hills, Grattamacco’s 67 acres of vineyards are located between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, with a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. This area benefits from a dry climate with considerable temperature fluctuations.

The Tipa Bertarelli Family acquired the estate in 2002 and have upheld the founding values of integrity, quality, and teamwork. They combine Italian passion and Swiss precision in crafting wines that represent top quality, history, and identity. Out of respect for nature, fully sustainable and natural methods are employed. While innovating in the vineyard and cellar, the guiding principle is to protect and maintain the reputation of Tuscany and produce wines that reflect the tradition of the region.
