There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. This wine delivers an exceptional quality of fruit. The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore l'Alberello is vinous and raw with an unmistakably authentic quality that gives this wine character and a specific territorial identity. You taste the flavors of the Tuscan Coast with that "macchia mediterrana," or Mediterranean brush, with ripe cherry, plum, black olive and sweet cinnamon spice. At this young stage, the wine's oak imprint is evident, but we can look forward to this relaxing and tapering down with more bottle age. Some 8,000 bottles were made.
