The climatic conditions allow the fine grape varietals to reach full ripeness and express plenty of the best features of their terroir, making La Rioja wines some of the most interesting to have ever come out of Europe. The Cantabrian mountains to the north provide the perfect shelter from the colder, wetter influences of the Atlantic oceans, and in the beloved vineyards of La Rioja, wineries have been cultivating exceedingly flavorful Tempranillo grapes for generations for the inclusion in their fine single variety and blended wines.

Their white is the 2024 Trascuevas Blanco, a blend of grapes from three plots in Baños de Ebro, Samaniego and Ábalos, 1.3 hectares in total, and the breakdown in 2024 is 85% Viura, 10% Palomino Fino and 5% Malvasía Riojana. The juice from the direct pressing fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured with equal parts in concrete and 600-liter oak foudres for 11 months. It has a clean and expressive nose with notes of fennel and wildflowers and is herbal and fresh. It has moderate ripeness and a floral personality and is clean, young and pale, with some green tints. It has 13.1% alcohol and a low pH of 3.12, which indicates very good freshness. The oak is neatly integrated, and the profile is of elegance and subtleness, harmonious and pure, clean and very balanced, tasty and finishing with a chalky sensation and a note of aniseed. 4,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025.

The 2024 Blanco Trascuevas (Viura with 15% Malvasía and Palomino) opens with fresh pear, white fruit, acacia, subtle oak and soft herbal notes. On the palate, it is expressive, with elevated acidity and a malic snap that lends crispness, plus a light chalky edge. Still primary and somewhat understated today, the wine already has all the aromatic precursors in place to develop Viura’s deeper complexity with bottle age. Patience will reward it.

Winery Notes

Clean and a pale yellow with green undertones. Elegant nose; multifaceted; fragrant; floral; sharp orange peel aroma. One that needs time in the glass to reveal all of his layers and complexities. It's refreshingly unique and refreshingly pleasant.
