Officially certified regeneratively organic, with Tablas Creek among their few peers in this category, the 2024 Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine comes from the original vineyard where everything began for them. More reserved aromatically at first, it slowly reveals red fruits, mint, saline minerality, and brilliant mouthwatering acidity. Structured and detailed, it has excellent length and should age beautifully over the next two decades…Owner/winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson (also a Master of Wine) and his friend and business associate Chris Cottrell continue to turn out some of the most compelling and focused expressions with the release of the 2024 vintage, from their entry-point Syrah and Zinfandel all the way through their top heritage field blends. Not only do the wines offer a wide spectrum and transparency of site, they overdeliver. The wines for this report were tasted at their tasting room in the town of Sonoma in the Spring of 2026.

Of all the New World wine countries, perhaps the one which has demonstrated the most flair for producing high quality wines - using a combination of traditional and forward-thinking contemporary methods - has been the United States of America. For the past couple of centuries, the United States has set about transforming much of its suitable land into vast vineyards, capable of supporting a wide variety of world-class grape varietals which thrive on both the Atlantic and the Pacific coastlines. Of course, we immediately think of sun-drenched California in regards to American wines, with its enormous vineyards responsible for the New World's finest examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot based wines, but many other states have taken to viticulture in a big way, with impressive results. Oregon, Washington State and New York have all developed sophisticated and technologically advanced wine cultures of their own, and the output of U.S wineries is increasing each year as more and more people are converted to their produce.

California as a wine producing region has grown in size and importance considerably over the past couple of centuries, and today is the proud producer of more than ninety percent of the United States' wines. Indeed, if California was a country, it would be the fourth largest producer of wine in the world, with a vast range of vineyards covering almost half a million acres. The secret to California's success as a wine region has a lot to do with the high quality of its soils, and the fact that it has an extensive Pacific coastline which perfectly tempers the blazing sunshine it experiences all year round. The winds coming off the ocean cool the vines, and the natural valleys and mountainsides which make up most of the state's wine regions make for ideal areas in which to cultivate a variety of high quality grapes.

Because of this vital combination of excellent conditions, the region is able to grow a wide range of grape varietals for use in the production of an impressive array of wines, with many different red and white wine grapes flourishing each year and producing excellent and characterful results. The soils have been enriched by volcanic activity, and the presence of geothermal springs, which make this region a unique one, and very much the beating heart of California's ever growing wine industry.

Such an interesting wine. Leads with robust, just-ripe wild berries, crushed dried flowers and dried herbs. Medium-bodied and structured with a silky mid-palate followed by mineral tension. Changes every time you go back to the glass. The finish is long, flavorful and vibrant. Drink or hold.

The 2024 Bedrock Vineyard Heritage comes from vines planted in 1888; the vineyard was Regenerative Organic Certified in 2025. A blend of around 62% Zinfandel, 19% Carignan, 10% Mourvèdre and a small portion of more than 20 other varieties that are interplanted in the vineyard, it has slowly blossoming scents of peach, blueberry, bitter orange, rooibos tea, earth and iron-like undertones. The full-bodied palate is bursting with pure, detailed flavors. It’s structured by firm, suede-textured tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, elegant finish.

The 2024 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a powerful, deep wine. Muscular contours and dark, enveloping fruit shape this virile, almost somber Zinfandel-based field blend. The 2024 needs time to soften, but it is also not quite as massive as some previous vintages, which is a positive. The overall direction at the Bedrock estate vineyard has been impressive of late. For years, I have asked myself if this site has the potential to make wines of the same level as some of the neighboring properties.

Potent in structure and brooding at the core but plump with personality, offering blackberry and currant flavors accented by bitter chocolate, dark Asian spice and licorice tones as this builds tension and tannins on the finish. Hands off for now. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Best from 2027 through 2037. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,200 cases made.
