92-94 A wonderfully fresh if decidedly restrained nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of primarily red currant and cherry that are nuanced by hints of forest floor and a pretty floral hint. There is excellent volume, punch, power and mid-palate density to the muscular and lightly mineral-driven flavors that possess a seductive mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the less austere, complex and lingering finale. This beauty also possesses first-rate development potential.

91-93 The 2021 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru is terrific. It has just enough depth to balance the more angular leanings of the year. Layered and enveloping, with lovely aromatic intensity, the Rognet opens beautifully in the glass. Hints of blood orange, red berry fruit, white pepper and rose petal all grace this finely cut, nuanced Corton from Bruno Clavelier. The 2021 is promising.

Winery Notes

This grand cru from the Côte de Beaune has an expression significantly different from other vintages of the estate in Côte-de-Nuits. The tender and weathered marl limestone which forms the basis of the soil produces wines with harmonious, polished tannins and a subtle acidity. The Corton Grand Cru Le Rognet offers a velvety texture (young peach, jammy fruits, figs) with ample charm, punctuated by smoky notes (cured ham), and animated by a fine minerality that stretches the finish.
