Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The grand vin is 50% each Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and the élevage was in 100% new French oak barrels for 20 months. Dark and a little brooding on the nose, this starts off with a little matchsticky reduction beneath which the fruit is currently hiding. With a little time it begins to emerge, led by confit red cherry and crushed summer fruits, then rose petals, verbena and mint all eventually coming to the fore. The palate is a delight, charming and fresh, with a supple upper layer of juicy cherry and currant fruits, garlanded with rose petals, verbena, acacia and mint, which rests over a tightly knit base of tannins which persist beneath the fruit and runs into the finish, gently coating rather than dominating the palate. This is a stunning Ausone, with such purity and finesse, such completeness of tannic structure and floral fruit, so integrated and yet clearly brimming with potential, its future seems destined to be magnificent. The alcohol is declared on the label to be a striking 15%, of which there is no real suggestion on the palate at all, but if that bothers you, now you know. A remarkable wine.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Wow. This is such a big and beautiful Ausone with huge depth that slowly uncoils. Really powerful, mineral and naturally concentrated, with iron, chalk and a rich, almost opulent core of black fruit, but really fresh, with chiseled tapenade and wood spices that only tiptoe on the nose. Superb intensity hidden beneath the palate, with a matrix of chalky tannins that vibrate, shine and extend. Nothing stops it at the finish, which lasts well over a minute. Almost beguilingly drinkable considering the tannin quality, which is so fine and energetic, but I'd give it at least 3-4 years to let the wood spices integrate more and let the wine grow with more complexity. A bigger Ausone with higher alcohol, but fantastic and rather outrageous. 60% cabernet franc and 40% merlot. This will age well for at least two decades.

Lastly, the Grand Vin 2022 Château Ausone is based on equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot that spent 20 months in new barrels. Smoky black cherries, mulberries, iron, violets, and spring flower notes are just some of its nuances, and it's deep purple-hued, with full-bodied richness and a surprising level of elegance, purity, and precision. This is one of the more elegant, finesse-driven, yet still incredibly powerful examples of this Château that I can remember. It deserves a decade of cellaring and will evolve for half a century.

The 2022 Ausone has a generous, quite floral bouquet, with rose petal and iris flower infusing the red fruit, very well defined with an assiduous use of oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh and vibrant, smooth in texture with quite a linear, sorbet-fresh finish. Very long on the aftertaste, excellent. Salty, spicy tannins melt into a lingering, fruit-filled finish. A clear step up from Chapelle, with an extra layer of finesse. Signature Ausone with remarkable depth and balance despite over 15% alcohol. 3.57pH.

The 2022 Ausone opens in the glass with a brooding bouquet of raspberry preserve, licorice, rose petals and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, deep and dense, it's layered and textural, with a sweet core of fruit framed by powdery, youthfully grippy tannins, concluding with a discreetly heady finish. It's a serious, structured Ausone that will require a bit of patience.
