There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Fresh blackcurrant and blackberry leaf on the nose. Tobacco, violets and mocha, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Nicely structured with a deliciously fragrant, leafy quality. Extremely well done. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Try from 2024.

Juicy and layered black fruits here, this is excellent, with real sense of drive forward through the palate and well expressed tannins that have texture and sap running through them. Easy to recommend, and good value. Drinking Window 2023 - 2038.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Caronne Ste Gemme strides confidently from the glass with classic notes of cassis, blackberry pie and baked plums, plus there are wafts of pencil shavings, menthol and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate delivers plenty of dried herbs-laced black fruits, supported by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory.

Winery Notes

Offers raisin and dried fruit, with very ripe fruitaromas and coffee and oak undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. This is pumped up, but I like the flamboyant character. Best after 2011. 20,000 cases made.
