Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Notes of blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of cloves, licorice, tobacco and hazelnuts. It has medium body and ripe, velvety tannins. Juicy and round with a fruity finish. Merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Needs two or three years to soften and open.

Fragrant and full of life on the nose. Succulent and supple, this has energy and brightness, full of raspberry and red cherry fruit. On the lighter-framed side with an aerial feel to the palate, which is fresh, juicy and full of personality.

The 2019 Citran has come together nicely in élevage. Succulent red cherry, mint, tobacco, licorice, rose petal, cinnamon and dried herbs all grace this expressive Haut-Médoc. Hints of cedar, menthol and spice linger. The 2019 is a bit rustic, but it offers plenty of character.

Black cherry, mulberries, tobacco, and sappy flower and cedary notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Citran, a nicely balanced, medium-bodied, elegant Haut-Médoc that has come together nicely since I tasted it from barrel. It will keep for a solid 10-12 years.

The 2019 Citran is deep garnet-purple in color. Plum preserves, blackcurrant cordial, and fallen leaves waft from the glass followed by hints of Sichuan pepper and black olives. Medium-bodied, it is fruity with a lively backbone and soft tannins, finishing pure, bright, and cheery.
