Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The 2021 Clos de Sarpe is a wine of density, power and personality. Cedar, tobacco, scorched earth, licorice, incense and dried herbs lead into a core of deep, textured fruit. Dark red plum, white pepper, blood orange and exotic spice all run through this potent, deeply structured Saint-Émilion. This is a standout.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. I continue to absolutely love what this château does, and the wines have never been better. The 2021 Château Clos De Sarpe comes from a single 3.7-hectare vineyard on the eastern portion of the appellation and is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from tiny yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, with a long 42-day maceration followed by aging in 70% new barrels. Sensational notes of pure crème de cassis and black raspberry fruit, crushed stone, spring flowers, and graphite, as well as a chalky, crushed stone-like minerality, all emerge from the glass, and this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, fine tannins, and nicely integrated background oak. It hit 14.5% alcohol and brings more depth, richness, and texture than most in the vintage. I would be thrilled to have bottles in the cellar, and it will ideally be given 4-6 years of bottle age and will evolve gracefully over the following two decades. Hats off to Jean-Guy Beyney and his niece Maylis Marcenat for another brilliant wine. This château deserves more attention in the market today, as they're producing some of the greatest wines from the Right Bank.

The 2021 Clos de Sarpe has turned out very nicely in bottle, offering up aromas of dark berries, spices, sweet soil tones and bay leaf, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless palate with good depth of fruit, racy acids and impressively suave, polished tannins. By the standards of this site, the 2021 will be unusually approachable out of the gates.

Plummy nose with a touch of chili chocolate, currants, dried hibiscus, mushrooms and dark earth. Medium to full body on the palate with juicy berries and polished, silky tannins. Juicy, elegant but pretty long. From organically grown grapes. Delicious now, but can hold for six to seven years, too.

The 2021 Clos de Sarpe is organic. It has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and it prances out with showy notes of stewed cherries and raspberry preserves, followed by suggestions of potpourri, violets, and menthol. The medium-bodied palate is vivacious and perfumed, with satiny tannins and a racy backbone, finishing with impressive length.
