Checking in as a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache Noir raised in 100% new barrels, the 2022 Clos Des Truffiers is slightly more open, round, and sexy compared to the more exotic Porte du Ciel. Mulled red and black fruits, peppered game, spice, leather, and a hint of tobacco all shine on the nose, and it’s full-bodied, expansive, and seamless on the palate, with flawless tannins, a sun-kissed, rounded mouthfeel, and a gorgeous finish. The Porte du Ciel release might actually have a touch more density, but this is flawlessly balanced and just about impossible to resist today. I followed this bottle for multiple days, and it only got better with air. It should easily evolve for another 20 years on its overall balance. Drink 2026-2046.
