This wine is crafted by Targé’s friends from Touraine, 100 km away from Château de Targé. Their terroirs are exceptionally suited for Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc. The aim is to make a fruity, expressive Gamay, with spicy notes on the finish – very typical of this appellation. With its balanced alcohol content and extensive fruitiness, this wine is great as an apéritif, and will go down easily all throughout the summer months.
Gamay, a red grape varietal primarily associated with Beaujolais in France, is celebrated for its vibrant and approachable character. What makes Gamay unique is its immediate charm and versatility, offering wines that are light-bodied yet bursting with flavor. Known for its low tannins and high acidity, Gamay wines are exceptionally food-friendly and often enjoyed slightly chilled.
The grape expresses red fruit flavors such as cherry, raspberry, and sometimes a subtle hint of banana. Beaujolais Nouveau, a young and fruity style of wine released just weeks after harvest, exemplifies Gamay’s exuberant nature. Beaujolais Crus, like Morgon and Fleurie, showcase the grape’s ability to produce wines with depth and complexity.
Gamay’s allure lies in its quaffable and joyous character, making it a favorite for those seeking easy-drinking reds. The varietal’s adaptability to various winemaking styles and its delightful expression of fruit-forward characteristics contribute to its popularity, offering wine enthusiasts an accessible and delightful entry into the world of red wines.

Within France, the one region most closely associated with fine white and rosé wines is surely the Loire Valley. With over eight controlled appellations, and a relatively large expanse of land covering this wide valley, the Loire Valley is an ideal location for wineries wishing to produce large quantities of excellent quality vines for their wine production. Indeed, this region has been associated with excellent white wines for over a thousand years, with it once being the favorite wine region for the crowned heads of England, France and beyond. Today, it produces a wide range of white wines, and several rosé and red varieties also. It is also widely celebrated for being home to some of France's most lively and fruity sparkling crémant wines, which more than match those produced in nearby Champagne.
Appellation
Vouvray/Touraine
Touraine is a French wine appellation in the heart of the Loire Valley, known for its diversity and value. It produces a wide range of wine styles, including crisp whites, light reds, fresh rosés, and elegant sparkling wines. The region’s cool climate and varied soils contribute to its distinctive character.
White wines, especially those made from Sauvignon Blanc, are the appellation’s hallmark—zesty, aromatic, and citrus-driven, often with a stony or grassy edge. Red Touraine is typically made from Gamay, Cabernet Franc, or Pinot Noir, offering juicy red fruit and soft tannins. Rosés are dry and refreshing, and méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines are increasingly respected.
Touraine’s wines are approachable, versatile, and food-friendly, making them ideal for everyday drinking and discovery. For wine lovers seeking a gateway into French terroir without the price tag of more famous regions, Touraine delivers quality and character with unmistakable Loire charm.
