The smoke, almond, dark-berry and plum character is impressive to this young Duhart. Full body, round and silky tannins and beautiful fruit and spice undertones. Plenty of coffee and cedar flavors at the end. A pretty Duhart. Needs four or five years bottle age.

Varietal

Red Bordeaux

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Firm and tannic, this wine's rich structure is balanced by a concentrated blackberry flavor and bright acidity. Drink from 2026.

This has a mix of silky and charcoal-edged texture carrying gently steeped black currant, plum and cherry fruit flavors along, while lovely perfumed black tea and violet notes infuse the finish. Shows sneaky length, with a lingering iron detail. Just a touch shy on depth overall. Best from 2020 through 2031. 22,000 cases made.

Wine Advocate

Composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot and aged for 14 months in barrels, 50% new, the 2015 Duhart-Milon has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and an open, expressive nose of warm red currants, black raspberries and spice cake with nuances of cedar chest, bay leaves and tobacco plus a waft of rose hips. Medium-bodied, vibrant and refreshing in the mouth, it has a good amount of chewy tannins and layers of lively red and black fruits, finishing on an earthy note.

Vinous Media

The 2015 Duhart-Milon has an intense bouquet of blackberry, undergrowth, mint and pencil shaving scents that soar from the glass, demonstrating much more conviction than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity, and quite natural and classic in style, though it misses a little depth toward the finish, which attenuates prematurely. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

This has an abundance of tobacco notes, with crushed black fruits and dark chocolate. We are clearly striding through Pauillac here, and this is a very good wine, but not the best Duhart of recent years - for me you have to head to 2016 for that. Things taper off quicker than expected through the mid-palate, although there is a black cherry sweetness that is very attractive. 50% new oak. Bottled April 2017. Drinking Window 2022 - 2034.

Jeb Dunnuck

The 2015 Duhart Milon is a surprisingly charming, elegant and medium-bodied Pauillac that’s 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot that was brought up in 40% new French oak. With perfumed notes of spice-box, cedarwood, toast, and sweet black currant fruit, it has sweet tannin and is already accessible, yet will cruise for two decades.

The Wine Independent

With 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, the 2015 Duhart-Milon is medium to deep garnet in color. It features notes of crushed black cherries, mulberries, and fragrant earth, over a core of blackcurrants and boysenberries. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is fine-grained and refreshing with plenty of bright, crunchy fruit and a lifted finish.
