I evidently underestimated the 2019 Fleur la Mothe when I reviewed it from bottle earlier this year, as the wine is performing outstandingly today. Offering up aromas of cassis, ripe berries, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper, it's medium-bodied, fleshy and vibrant, with powdery tannins and an attractive core of fruit. A sleeper of the vintage, it offers a broad drinking window—and great value.

The 2019 Fleur La Mothe has retained the well-defined, focused bouquet of cedar-infused black fruit that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, and still that stony note infusing the black fruit. The “cool” finish lingers in the mouth. Excellent.

Winery Notes

Fairly deep, young colour. Intense nose with roasted coffee and spiced oak aromas. Full, harmonious attack on the palate where the fruit and oak work well together. Firmer mid-palate and finish. Drink with rib-eye steak grilled over vine twigs.
