There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. Dense and rich red for the vintage with plums, dried strawberries, dark chocolate and spices. Full-bodied, layered and displaying a caressing mouthfeel. Flavorful and intense finish. Savory and minerally. Better in 2017.

Dense ruby/purple with fleshy black cherry and black currant fruit, some licorice and incense, this opulent, medium to full-bodied wine displays terrific purity, a subtle dosage of background oak, and earth. Maybe even a hint of truffle can be found in this complex, high-class Pomerol to drink over the next 20 years. This is a beauty and another great example of what heights Pomerol achieved in this vintage.

Very polished, with ripe and pure plum and boysenberry coulis flavors tinged with anise and black tea details. The long finish builds steadily and slowly, fleshing out with air and showing extra roasted apple wood and plum cake notes. Almost approachable now, but this may improve in the cellar. Best from 2017 through 2027. 625 cases made.

Dark ruby. Musky aromas of black fruits, red cherry and spicy potpourri. Silky on entry, then rich, dense and ripe in the middle, with sneaky intensity to the slightly tarry flavors of blackberry, dark cherry and quinine. The tarry element carries through on the long, firmly tannic finish, along with a trace of heat, but this rather powerful wine also has considerable finesse.
