Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

In bottle, the 2022 Lafite Rothschild has turned out even better than I anticipated. Wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, minty blackcurrants, violets and cigar box, it’s medium to full-bodied, velvety and suave, with a deep, enveloping core of lively fruit, beautifully refined tannins, and a long, perfumed finish. Even at this early stage, it’s remarkably integrated and harmonious, and it’s certainly the most elegant of the first growths this year, reminding me of a modern-day version of Lafite’s magical 1953.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. A benchmark modern Lafite showing tobacco, orange peel, cedar, pencil shavings, violets and cigar box—so perfumed. Medium-bodied with lots of graphite, stone and hints of redcurrants on the palate. It goes on for minutes. Reminds me of Lafites that I love made decades ago. Could be the great 1986. A blend of 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2030 but already fascinating.

The 2022 Château Lafite-Rothschild is based on 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot that was harvested between the 31st of August and the 24th of September. Just sensational in its power while remaining weightless, it offers utterly classic Lafite aromatics of crème de cassis, freshly sharpened lead pencils, spring flowers, and graphite. Full-bodied, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, it has a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, off-the-charts purity, and a finish that won’t quit. It’s shockingly accessible, yet there’s no shortage of structure, depth, or concentration. Aged in new French oak barrels, this is a monumental Lafite that should evolve for 50-75+ years. If this doesn’t do it for you, I can’t imagine what would.

The 2022 Lafite-Rothschild has a more marine-influenced nose with multidimensional black fruit, beautifully defined, with bunches of violet emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, layers of black fruit, intense and yet remarkably light on its feet, with a long, mineral-driven finish. Stunning. One of the great vintages in recent years, a First Growth that will mature over decades. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The grand vin from Lafite is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, the latter from one small parcel (of two planted) which is home to some very old vines, and the élevage was in entirely new oak. I adore the nose here, the fruit profile moving from red to black, but with a savoury tension rather anything broad or rich, with nuances of black pepper, olive, liquorice and tobacco, not to mention a wrapping of finely polished new oak and a touch of fine reduction. This latter element also wraps up the palate, which carries dark fruit, olive, liquorice and currant, with a very fine and well-honed core of finessed tannins, which support the sinewy substance of the palate. The finish is all snugly defined elegance, and overall this has an excellent and rather aristocratic stance, with a long finish of incredibly tightly packed tannins. Buyers of this wine will need to be patient. The alcohol on the label is 13.5%.
