There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. This is both winey, with currant and cherry paste flavors, as well as tangy, with bright iron minerality for spine and a lilac note flitting through. The taut finish has pebbly grip. Not big, but should be fun to watch this mellow slightly with time. Best from 2021 through 2031. 6,500 cases made.

The first bottle of the 2016 Le Boscq was corked. The second has a detailed, precise bouquet of brambly red fruit, cedar and light loamy aromas. The palate is clean and fresh, offering fine tannins, well-judged acidity and a slightly grainy texture, but displaying admirable precision and mineralité on the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.

Winery Notes

Beautiful deep color with purple hints. Rich and intense, the nose presents complex notes of black fruits, spices, licorice, and precious wood. Ample and full-bodied from the attack, the palate is fleshy and juicy, bursting with character. The long, velvety finish reflects the typical character of this beautiful Saint-Estèphe terroir, balancing richness and elegance.
