The subtle beauty of the nose is so impressive, with dark chocolate, coffee and blackberry aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm tannins and a creamy and polished finish. Racy and very long. 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Best after 2029.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Shows a steeped edge, with black tea and incense swirling around a core of gently warmed blackberry, boysenberry and plum compote flavors. Fleshy, with hints of ganache and singed anise on the finish giving a slightly exotic tilt that grows steadily in the glass. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2027 through 2039.

The 2023 Le Gay is a gorgeous, sumptuous Pomerol. Copious dark fruit, mocha, chocolate, licorice, dried herbs and a kiss of French oak are all laced together. As always, Le Gay shows the riper side of the appellation, which is amplified by vinification in barrel. This should be stellar with a few more years in bottle.

A more elegant, finesse-driven Pomerol that grows on you with time in the glass, the 2023 Château Le Gay has spicy red and black fruits, sappy herbs, flowers, and camphor on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, graceful, layered mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. It blossoms with air and needs 4-5 years of bottle age to really shine but will reward patience with a solid two decades or more of prime drinking. Drink 2030-2050.

92-94 2023 Le Gay provides a raspberry-like nose and with fine, pure fruit. In the taste you find lots of plumb fruit and a fresh mint like element. It has the classic lightness of Le Gay, as it was never a heavy wine, and offers a rounded, well built, fresh aftertaste with lots of notes of pure fruit. It can be approached in 4-5 years and should be a nice wine to consume early on.
