Aromas of apricot, passion fruit, lemon pie and custard. Crushed stones, fennel and cloves, too. It’s full-bodied with bright acidity and a layered, creamy texture. Long, rounded and mineral finish. Very tight and structured. Drink or hold.

White Bordeaux

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

Graves

Graves, a venerable appellation in Bordeaux, France, is renowned for its historical significance and the production of distinguished red and white wines. What makes Graves unique is its diverse terroir, featuring gravelly soils that not only lend the region its name but also provide excellent drainage and heat reflection, contributing to the ripening of grapes. Red wines from Graves are predominantly blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a balanced expression of dark fruits, structure, and age-worthy potential. The appellation is also celebrated for its exceptional white wines, primarily crafted from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The white wine from this estate has become a reference point, and this release continues that reputation. It is rich while keeping freshness through crisp acidity. Spice and touches of tropical fruits add richness and complexity to a wine that is sure to age. Drink from 2024. (#18 Top 100 Cellar Selections, 2021)

The 2018 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc offers a good bit of precision to play off the natural radiance of the year. Lemon confit, marzipan, dried flowers and crushed rocks are all laced together in this super-expressive white. Bright saline underpinnings lend energy and drive. This is very nicely done.

I like the grip here. A little subdued but there is citrus zest and lime juice along with stone-fruit character, and good texture of pear and white peach fruit. Good quality, with the confidence and texture that you want from a classified white. Tasted twice.

Pretty pineapple, honeyed lime, and a touch of minerality emerge from the 2018 Château Malartic Lagraviere Blanc. It's another delicious, nicely textured, medium-bodied white in the vintage that brings lots of fruit as well as vibrancy and freshness. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 5-7 years.

The 2018 Malartic Lagraviere 2018 Blanc is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sémillon. It was fermented in oak barrels, 55% new. It opens with alluring scents of fresh pears, Golden Delicious apples and juicy peaches, followed by hints of nutmeg, dill seed and honeysuckle. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers bags of apple and stone fruit flavors with a racy line and oily suggestion to the texture, finishing on a lingering spicy note.

Racy in feel, with good cut to the mix of lemon pith, tarragon, verbena and thyme notes melding through the finish, where a lemon curd accent checks in. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2023.

The white 2018 Malartic Lagraviere has pronounced notes of warm apricots, guava, and candied orange peel, with hints of cedar, crushed rocks and struck flint. Medium-bodied, the palate has a satiny texture and a refreshing line cutting through the ripe stone fruits, finishing long.
