Some very rich and ripe red and dark berries here make for an impressive, engaging nose that has charming violet undertones. The palate is velvety and supple, while super smooth tannins deliver a long and plush, plum-soaked finish. Great wine and already drinking well. Try from 2023.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

The Margaux appellation of France's legendary Bordeaux wine region is one of the world's most famous and highly respected viticultural areas. For centuries, Margaux has been deeply associated with extremely fine wines of the highest quality, made using traditional and time-honored techniques in order to extract the very best, most refined and elegant flavors and aromas from the Bordeaux varietal grapes which grow there. Margaux wines are almost always blended, using two or three key Bordeaux grapes, commonly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (amongst others). The blending techniques and quantities have been passed down through the generations in the ancestral chateaus which make up the region, and quality and prestige has never been allowed to falter, making Margaux one of the undisputed jewels in France's already glittering crown.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Malescot St. Exupery is scented of chocolate-covered cherries, cassis and red plums with touches of earth and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of expressive fruit, it finishes long and pure.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2015 Malescot St. Exupery is a little closed to begin, soon opening to deliver scents of kirsch, black raspberries, and blackcurrant pastilles, plus touches of tilled soil and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is generous and fleshy, with plush tannins and an earthy finish.

The 2015 Malescot St. Exupéry has an elegant bouquet showcasing primarily red berry fruit (wild strawberry and raspberry), pencil shavings and light forest floor scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, finely-tuned acidity, a little more black fruit than the nose and a granular texture. It gently builds in the glass and is harmonious, slightly Saint-Julien in style, towards the finish that displays a touch of black pepper. Very fine.

Relatively open on the nose even at this early stage, with lashings of freshly crushed black fruits. On the palate, the dominant flavours are cinnamon and freshly puréed raspberry and blackberry. It's not hugely intense, and should be for medium term drinking.
