From an incredible terroir not far from Tertre Roteboeuf, the 2022 Château Rochebelle reveals a vivid purple hue as well as classic Saint-Emilion aromatics of ripe black cherries, chocolaty herbs, tobacco, and crushed stone. These all carry to a full-bodied, richly concentrated 2022 with plenty of opulence and power that’s perfectly balanced by fine tannins, incredible purity of fruit, and a beautiful sense of freshness and elegance. This complete, layered 2022 brings everything you could want from this vintage. Give bottles 4-5 years if you can and enjoy over the following 20-25 years.

Varietal

Red Bordeaux

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

This creamy and delicious red has notes of hazelnuts, coriander, plums and chocolate. It’s medium- to full-bodied, juicy and polished, with fine-grained tannins. Long, caressing and flavorful finish. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. Drink from 2027.

The Wine Independent

92-94+ Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Rochebelle soars from the glass with evocative notes of Morello cherries, fresh raspberries, and warm plums, followed by hints of violets and licorice. The medium to full-bodied palate is bright and juicy, with velvety tannins and bags of freshness supporting the black and red berry layers, finishing with a floral lift.
