There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. The 2020 Clos René has developed into a powerful, structured wine, much moreso than it was from barrel. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, leather and licorice are all amplified. This potent, deep Pomerol needs time to soften, that is for sure. There is a lot of wine here.

I loved the 2020 Clos René from barrel and it showed just as well from bottle, exhibiting a deep ruby/plum hue, notes of smoky red and black fruits, spice, and minty herbs, medium to full body, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-4 years to resolve some tannins but should drink nicely over the following decade or more. It's another brilliant Pomerol in 2020.
