Chalky depth, with black plums, berries, hazelnuts, dark chocolate and graphite on the nose. Fruity on the palate, with a medium to full body, tense tannins, dark plum and berry flavors and a long, juicy finish. Drinkable now, but better from 2027.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Super fragrant and perfumed on the nose, smells really clear with such clarity and focus to the aromatics and lots of fruit at the fore. Fresh and alive, the acidity hits first giving an instant buzz to the palate with crisp tannins and juicy, mouthwatering strawberry and red cherry fruit. Nothing out of place with chalky, almost salty edges on the finish. Delicious, just so approachable, really well balanced.

A classy, elegant second wine from this brilliant Saint-Émilion estate, the 2023 Croix De Beausejour is based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and was aged in 30% new oak with the rest in concrete and once-used barrels. Juicy red and black fruits, spring flowers, and graphite all emerge from the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied and beautifully textured on the palate, with fine tannins, terrific purity, and a good finish. This layered and outstanding effort will shine any time over the coming 15 years. Drink 2026-2040.

Medium- to full-bodied, it is round and juicy, with good depth at the core, framed by velvety tannins.
