The 2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is deeper in color compared with the Les Maréchaudes. The well-defined bouquet features cranberry and wild strawberry scents intermixed with wilted rose petal and sous-bois, delicate yet paradoxically intense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and fleshier than the Maréchaudes; the stem addition here seems more enmeshed. Just beautiful.

The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Mingling aromas of red berries and plums with hints of wintergreen, peonies, dark chocolate and spices, the 2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a broad, enveloping core of fruit but also a rather more reserved, introverted profile than the Maréchaudes. It’s a promising cuvée in the making.

A wonderfully spicy nose also features plenty of floral influence to the liqueur-like aromas of dark raspberry and kirsch. Like the Maréchaudes, this is a wine of textural contrasts as the super-fine mid-palate of the big-bodied flavors contrasts with the sleekly muscular flavors where the intensity really builds to the youthfully austere, superbly long and already highly complex finale. This is compact and backwards but a wine that is also exceptionally promising, provided of course that you have the patience to wait for it to fully blossom.

Winery Notes

This cuvée comes from four parcels which total 1.12 hectare, situated mid-slope and spread in homogenous fashion over the whole appellation, giving a nice typicity of Bressandes. The soils are deep and made up in equal parts of limestone and clay, giving the wine lovely balance and great length on the palate. It is a terroir that is very representative of the appellation Corton. The vines average 40 years-old and face east. In 2019, the wine was made with 100% whole clusters. When tasted out of barrel a year ago, it was rather wound up, with ripe fruit and a super mineral backbone. Year after year, the Bressandes has nice density and body, with black cherry and blackberry notes, a touch of licorice and a supportive, generous structure, with a finish that hangs on the palate.
