A blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne, sourced from the lieux-dits Saint-Joseph and Le Paradis, the 2024 Saint-Joseph Le Paradis Saint-Pierre Blanc is impressive. Revealing aromas of pear, spring flowers, white peach and spices, it’s medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, built around a fleshy core of fruit supported by lively acidity, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. Combining delicacy with power, it was matured entirely in barrels, of which 20% were new.

Marsanne wines are renowned for their medium to full body, rich texture, and nuanced flavors of ripe pear, honeydew melon, and nuts, often with hints of floral and herbal notes. With its balanced acidity and subtle minerality, Marsanne offers a sophisticated palate that pairs seamlessly with a variety of dishes, from seafood and poultry to creamy pasta and risotto. As interest in Rhône varietals grows, Marsanne continues to captivate enthusiasts with its timeless allure and undeniable charm, embodying the essence of French winemaking tradition.

Region

Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. The southern sub-region is home to an enormous variety of grapes, and produces red, white and rosé wines, and some of the world's most famous and adored blended wines. The continental climate of the region is ideal for growing grapes, and the winds which blow from the Central Massif help temper the heat in the vineyards, leading to very ripe fruits holding plenty of flavor.
