The class and purity of this benchmark white Bordeaux comes through clearly, with aromas of sliced Asian pears, green apples, stones and undertones of iodine and oyster shells. Linear and bright, with verve and focus. 70% sauvignon blanc and 30% semillon. Drinkable now, but better in 2028.

White Bordeaux

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

The Wine Independent

95-97 2023 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc offers a fresh, juicy nose with notes of crunchy lychee fruit. The taste is well composed, full bodied and very classic. It has lots of elegant sweetness, white berries and flowers and a crunchy well composed, long finish This is very good quality and knowing the aging potential of white Domaine de Chevalier this wine should develop even further with time. A great wine and a great success for the vintage.

Wine Advocate

The 2023 Blanc from Domaine de Chevalier ranks among the finest white wines produced in Bordeaux this vintage. Revealing aromas of spices, flowers, anise and fresh licorice, with oak rendered all but imperceptible, it is concentrated and structured, offering terrific depth at the core, racy acids and a mineral, saline and perfumed finish. The élevage here has elevated the wine rather than obscured it. Kudos!

Wine Spectator

Shows a stylish set of chamomile, honeysuckle and jasmine notes draped over a core of yuzu, yellow apple and mirabelle plum, while warm brioche and salted butter accents lend a flattering edge to the suave finish. Lovely. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2033.

Vinous Media

The 2023 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is dense, powerful and quite substantial. Naturally, it needs time in bottle, as all vintages do at this address. Hints of marzipan, lemon confit, tangerine oil and white truffle begin to emerge over time, filling out layers that resonate effortlessly from start to finish. The 2023 is both radiant and quite fresh. In that sense, it very much embodies the style of this vintage. Tasted three times.

94-96 Barrel Sample. Toasty aromas and rich white and citrus fruits give a rich wine that comes with a fine pedigree. It is an impressive wine that shows considerable promise. It should age for many years.

Decanter

If you have a vintage with a heatwave, you can count on this estate to outperform, and it did again in 2023, with wine marked by refined aromas of wet stone, lemongrass, verbena, fresh herb, lime, quince and kiwi. This kaleidoscope of aromas and flavours is encapsulated in a smooth and vivacious palate that remains precise and with exciting precision through to a long finish. The somewhat high alcohol is balanced by the acidity as the team picked to attain ripeness, while not doing any malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness.

Ripe citrus, stone fruits, crushed stone, subtle toast, and spice nuances all emerge from the 2023 Domaine De Chevalier Blanc, a rich, medium to full-bodied white that has integrated acidity, concentration, and a great finish. Another brilliant white from this team, it's approachable now yet won't hit full maturity for at least 7-8 years and will have 20+ years of overall longevity. Drink 2031-2045.
