Good deep red. Initially restrained nose opened somewhat with air to show aromas of redcurrant and flowers. Boasts excellent intensity and savory soil character but a bit medicinal and closed in on itself today, showing sound acidity but little easy sweetness; comes across as a bit tougher and more medicinal than the Volnay Mitans, without that wine’s obvious class. But this very firmly structured wine finishes with slowly mounting persistence and surprisingly ripe, suave tannins, and should be long-lived.

The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Bright red with ruby tones. Slightly cooler on the nose than the Volnays, offering scents of black cherry and menthol; not quite the same impression of skin ripeness here. (This wine was also made in a more reductive style and got a few extra pumpovers.) Densely packed and youthfully imploded, even a bit angular, offering reticent flavors of black cherry, spices and mint. A tougher, tighter, more saline style, dominated in the early going by its structure. This is usually a prettier, more delicate Pommard but not this year.
