The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

92-95 As is usually the case with this wine when it's young, the nose is restrained to the point of being almost mute though aggressive swirling liberates aromas of earth, spice, red currant and hints of the sauvage. And instead of the robust and well-muscled mid-palate there is an almost caressing mouth feel to the full-bodied yet refined flavors because while the supporting tannins are definitely firm and dense they are also quite finely-grained. There is excellent length to the moderately austere, tight, focused and linear finish that delivers outstanding persistence.

Lean, yet succulent and defined, sporting aromatic floral, cherry, strawberry and spice notes, accented by a touch of briar. The structure is firm and linear, with a tightly wound finish for now. Very elegant, this should come into its own in the next several years. Best from 2017 through 2028. 304 cases imported.

Bright medium red. Brooding aromas of medicinal black cherry, dark berries, licorice and flowers, plus a minty nuance. Moderately dense, rich and fine-grained but classically dry and quite backward, even clenched. Similarly medicinal and restrained in the mouth, with notes of menthol, herbs and earth, but aeration brought lovely intense flavors of dark fruits, minerals, spices and flowers as well. Finishes with substantial broad, slightly dusty tannins and very good length. Perhaps a bit light for this cuvée and thus probably likely to be a mid-term ager. This wine was a knockout in the early going but today I don't find as much density or sap. (13.1% alcohol; 3.44 pH; 3.4 g/l acidity; 34.5 h/h)

Winery Notes

Ruby red in colour with clear purple reflections. The nose is powerful, concentrated and exudes notes of black cherry and spice. The palate is rich and smooth with good energy and concentration. The finish is elegant. An excellent wine for cellar ageing. Serve with: Seared foie gras with armagnac, game, quail, full-flavoured cheeses such as Cîteaux or Reblochon.
