What makes Gamay unique is its immediate charm and versatility, offering wines that are light-bodied yet bursting with flavor. Known for its low tannins and high acidity, Gamay wines are exceptionally food-friendly and often enjoyed slightly chilled. The grape expresses red fruit flavors such as cherry, raspberry, and sometimes a subtle hint of banana. Wine Advocate

Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Fleurie Clos Vernay is more expressive, its floral bouquet of red fruits and sweet cocoa complemented by savory bass notes of game bird. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, juicy and ample, with fresh acids and firm, chalky structuring tannins.

Vinous Media

The 2017 Fleurie Clos Vernay was unaffected by hail according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a deep, blueberry and raspberry coulis scented bouquet, and hints of crushed iris developing with aeration. The palate is grippy and firm on the entry, quite dense for a Fleurie with a masculine, structured finish that suggests this will repay cellaring. It is a Fleurie with ambition.
