Varietal

Jacquère

Jacquère is a white grape variety native to France’s Savoie region, where it is the most widely planted grape. It thrives in the Alpine foothills, particularly in appellations like Apremont and Abymes, where the cool climate and limestone-rich soils help preserve its naturally high acidity and fresh character. What makes Jacquère unique is its light body, crisp acidity, and delicate aromatics, making it one of the most refreshing and mineral-driven white wines. It typically expresses bright citrus, green apple, white flowers, and subtle herbal notes, often with a pronounced stony, saline minerality due to the region’s limestone and glacial soils. Unlike fuller-bodied white wines, Jacquère is meant to be enjoyed young, highlighting its lively and thirst-quenching nature. Jacquère pairs exceptionally well with fondue, raclette, seafood, and light appetizers, making it a perfect companion for Alpine cuisine and those who appreciate crisp, elegant white wines.

Region

Savoie

Savoie is a small, mountainous wine region in eastern France near the Alps, known for its crisp, refreshing wines. With vineyards often planted on steep slopes at high altitudes, Savoie’s cool climate preserves acidity and freshness in the wines. The region specializes in white wines made from indigenous grapes like Jacquère, Altesse (Roussette), and Roussanne (locally called Bergeron). These whites are typically light-bodied, floral, and mineral-driven, perfect with regional dishes like fondue or raclette. Red wines are lighter and savory, made from grapes like Mondeuse and Gamay. Savoie also produces traditional method sparkling wines in smaller quantities. The wines are rarely aged in new oak and are often low in alcohol, making them vibrant and food-friendly. Though lesser-known than nearby Burgundy, Savoie offers unique expressions of terroir and is gaining attention for its clean, alpine style and commitment to native grape varieties. It’s a hidden gem for adventurous wine lovers.

JD 90pts

Jeb Dunnuck

Checking in as 100% Jacquère vinified and aged on the fine lees in stainless steel, the 2025 Vin De Savoie Apremont reveals pithy green citrus, grapefruit, juniper, and sappy floral notes on the nose. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with bright, clean, racy acidity and terrific overall balance. I love how fresh, focused, and just flat-out deliciously drinkable this is. Drink 2026-2028.

Winery Notes

Delicate and feather-light, it offers green apple and floral aromas on the nose. On the palate, it is dry and extremely refreshing, with crystal clear purity. Enjoy on its own, or pair with cheeses (especially fondue), or simple fish, chicken or pasta.
