Duemani’s flagship wine is made from biodynamically cultivated grapes grown in Riparbella on the Tuscan coast. It is showing beautifully, even in a hot, dry, vintage like 2017. Rich dark chocolate and milk chocolate notes mingle with blackberries and subtle, creamy oak. Its lavish texture is beautifully balanced by bright acidity and contrasting savoury, liquorice flavours, subtly integrated oak and a little dry twist to the fine and silty-textured tannins.

Cabernet Franc is not simply an important grape varietal for the fact that it is one of the most widely grown strains of vine in the world, but also because it is a vital grape in the production of many of the finest wines the world has ever seen. For centuries in its native France, it has been a varietal synonymous with elegance and high quality, and has become a key fruit in the production of the Bordeaux and Bordeaux-style blended wines which have gone down in history thanks to their magnificent flavors, aromas and levels of aged complexity. However, Cabernet Franc is also a wine grape varietal for use in single variety, unblended wines, and has plenty to offer on its own. Most commonly, it is renowned for its wide bouquet, which often includes fascinating notes of tobacco, violets or bell pepper over a beautifully pale and decadent liquid.

There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

For almost three thousand years, this region has been recognized as an ideal home for wine production on a large scale, and the ancient Etruscans, Greeks and Romans all noticed that fine grape varietals flourished on the unique soils and under the hot sunshine which typifies the area. Today, Tuscany is home to a wide range of wines, from the traditional to the complex, but all dedicated to excellent flavors and aromas, and maintaining the region's international reputation.

The 2017 Cabernet Franc Duemani is an enormous wine with a huge payload of concentration, yet there is a relieving freshness to it. Along with the pleasnat notes of spice and dark berry, you get all the thickness and the richness you might expect from a Cabernet Franc of this vintage. The tannins are less silky compared to the estate's Syrah, and it's not a bad idea to let this one cellar for a while before presenting it alongside a platter of rich, creamy cheeses.

The 2017 Duemani, the estate's top Cabernet Franc, is dark, fleshy and super-expressive. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, spice, menthol and chocolate are some of the notes that are pushed forward. Bold, racy and explosive, the Franc offers plenty of immediacy in 2017, yet also has enough structure to develop nicely in bottle for at least a handful of years. It was fermented in open top casks and aged in French 225 and 228L French oak barrels.

A beautiful Cabernet Franc with plums, dark fruits, violet and rose petal character. Full body, dense and chewy with dusty texture from the ripe tannins. This has an energy and focus that keeps your attention. Seamless and impressively balanced.
