There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. The Fattoria le Pupille 2021 Saffredi is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot that offers seamless integration of dark fruit flavors that bleed directly into spice, Tuscan cigar and earthy iris root. This vintage is compact and firm, especially in terms of mouthfeel, and there are graceful floral tones to close. The winery team has been tweaking the oak regime, landing on 60% to 65% new oak complemented by once-used barrels. They've been working in this manner since 2019 to establish sweet and integrated tannins.

Very tightly wound, racy even, with bracing acidity and refined tannins, this classy red leans more to the elegant side, with terrific harmony and length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2045. 3,750 cases made, 1,400 cases imported.
