Rated 94 – The 2023 Morgon from Georges Descombes is an excellent wine. It comes in at an even thirteen percent octane in this vintage and delivers a refined, vibrant aromatic constellation of cherries, sweet cranberries, beautiful spice tones, pigeon, a nice touch of whole clusters, distant bonfire, fresh thyme and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and transparent in personality, with a sappy core of red fruit, lovely soil signature and grip, tangy acids, superb balance and just a touch of backend tannin perking up the long, complex and bouncy finish. This is an outstanding bottle of young Morgon! 2025-2055. – View from the Cellar

The 2023 Morgon, aged in vat and large wooden foudres, has an elegant bouquet with pure red berry fruit, touches of cola and light pine needle scents. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, a smooth texture and fine acidity, with a dash of black pepper towards the finish. I appreciate the backbone to this Morgon, and it is drinking well now.
