89-91 The Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes 1er Cru has a delightful nose with delineated rose-petal tinged red berry fruit laced with sous-bois. The palate is well balanced with fine grain tannins, quite minerally with a slightly lactic finish that just shaves away some of its definition. It’s an “almost there” Combottes that should improve by the time of bottling.
