90-92 The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Lavrottes 1er Cru comes from the youngest vines of the domaine, at 20 years of age, and this vintage includes 30% whole-bunch fruit. It feels tightly wound at first and needs coaxing from the glass, offering menthol-tinged red fruit with time, and later crushed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins, well-judged acidity and nicely integrated oak (to the point where I assumed it was 50%). There is plenty of cassis fruit on the finish. A precocious Burgundy that is not complex but packed full of flavor.

There is good volume and an attractive punchiness to the tautly muscular flavors that possess a seductive mid-palate texture, all wrapped in a youthfully austere and slightly chewy finish that flirts with rusticity.
