Sauvignon Blanc

The green skinned grapes of the Sauvignon Blanc varietal had their origins in Southern France, where they are still widely grown and used for many of the excellent young and aged white wines the region is famous for. Today, however, they are grown in almost every wine producing country in the world, and are widely revered for their fresh and grassy flavors, full of tropical notes and refreshing, zesty character. Sauvignon Blanc grapes thrive best in moderate climates, and ripen relatively early in the year. This has made them a favorite for many wineries in the New World, where they can still produce healthy and high yields in the earlier part of the summer before the temperatures become too hot. Decanter

Brochard owns 1.12ha on the imposing, fully south-facing Monts Damnés, with individual plots in the upper, lower and 'premium' middle sectors of the steep slope, reaching 45 degrees in places. Much more restrained than the Beaujeu, this is quite linear and focused at the moment, but there is no doubt it has great potential for further ageing. The wine was fermented in stainless steel, and 50% was then matured in amphora and the other 50% in a combination of amphora and oak.

Like a cushion, the 2022 La Côte de Monts Damnés has padding and give, but it remains intense and concentrated. There's a little bit of almond meal flavor here alongside the citrus line. Considering the vintage, there's plentiful tension and drive.

Winery Notes

Pale yellow. An expressive nose with pineapple, passion fruit and bright citrus. Well-balanced and structured with brilliant freshness.
