In 2019 the grapes were very ripe, with a slightly elevated pH, giving a lush fruit character and a texture that is silky-soft and rather lacking the tannin one expects in Gevrey, although it will be very pleasant for current drinking. Produced with purchased fruit from a quarter-hectare of low-yielding vines in La Justice.

89-91 There are four barrels from purchased fruit of the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice this year. It is tightly wound on the nose with chalk-infused black fruit, a little sous-bois emerging, damp leaves on an October morning. The palate is medium-bodied with red fruit on the entry, quite tender and elegant with a touch of white pepper on the saline finish. Probably one of Lignier's earlier drinking cuvées, nevertheless, it may well age with style.
