The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.

Intense from the first tilt of the glass, the 2023 Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore Liber Pater bursts with masses of crushed raspberries, cherries, minty herbs and confectionary spice. It’s juicy to the core with cooling acidity that enlivens its vividly ripe wild berry fruits. The 2023 finishes incredibly fresh, leaving the slightest tinge of licorice to fade.
Gaglioppo is a red grape variety native to Calabria, Italy, best known for producing the region’s signature Cirò DOC wines. Believed to have ancient Greek origins, Gaglioppo thrives in Calabria’s hot, dry climate, where it develops high sugar levels and firm tannins, resulting in structured, age-worthy wines.
What makes Gaglioppo unique is its balance of power and elegance. The wines typically have a medium to full body, with bright acidity and moderate tannins, offering flavors of red cherry, dried strawberry, plum, spice, and earthy undertones. Despite its warm climate origins, Gaglioppo retains good acidity, making it more vibrant than many Mediterranean reds.
Traditionally, Gaglioppo wines were rustic and tannic, but modern winemaking techniques have refined them, creating smoother, more fruit-forward styles. It pairs well with grilled meats, hearty pastas, and aged cheeses, offering a compelling alternative to more well-known Italian reds while showcasing Calabria’s rich winemaking heritage.
Country
Italy
There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

Wine Advocate
From the wild and largely unexplored region of Calabria (the "tippy toe" of the boot of Italy), the Ippolito 1845 2023 Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore Liber Pater is a charming red wine with authentic and rustic charm. It offers fun fruit flavors with wild cherry and blackcurrant, but the overall profile remains simple and punchy. There are background hints of tar and black olive. Made with 100% Gaglioppo, this is a release of 70,000 bottles.
Winery Notes
Ruby red in color with a light purple hue, complex aromas of wild berries, violets, spice and a so note of oak provided by barrique aging. It is a full-bodied, rich and velvety wine.
