There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Smoky edge to the aromatics, vanilla, raspberry and coffee grounds. Lacking a little depth through the mid palate. It's enjoyable, and gains in both interest and complexity as it opens up in the glass. Good, if a little inconsistent. A yield of 38hl/ha. Axel Marchal consultant. Tasted twice.

The 2020 La Croix de Gay has turned out very nicely, exhibiting aromas of cherries, berries and plums mingled with hints of dried herbs and espresso roast. Medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit underpinned by sweet, powdery tannins, it concludes with a touch of youthful grip, but it's extroverted enough to be approached young.

An outstanding effort from this Pomerol château, the 2020 Château La Croix De Gay reveals a deeper ruby/plum color as well as a spicy, complex, expressive bouquet of red and black fruits, loamy earth, dried herbs, and nicely integrated oak. Medium-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins and solid overall balance, it's going to evolve nicely for 10-15 years.
