91-93 Mostly Semillon, the 2023 Lions De Suduiraut Blanc is based on 57% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon, and 13% Sauvignon Gris. It has a juicy, vibrant nose of crushed citrus, tart grapefruit, and minty, mineral-like nuances as well as medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It has the pretty, juicy, vibrant style of the vintage.

The 2023 Blanc Sec Lions de Suduiraut is terrific. Bright and vibrant, it delivers notes of ripe pear, ginger, white flowers and chamomile. The 2023 strikes me as a bit richer and creamier than some past editions, but that's not a bad thing for a wine that is basically made to be purchased and consumed within a fairly short time frame. What a delight.

90-92 The 2023 Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec races out of the glass with notes of gooseberries, lime leaves, and chalk dust plus suggestions of lemongrass and wet pebbles. The medium-bodied palate is stacked with citrus and mineral flavors supported by a refreshing backbone, finishing on a persistent chalky note. The blend is 57% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and 13% Sauvignon Gris, with pH 3.40.

With linden, orange rind and iodine aromatics presaging a fresh, linear palate that is sheer joy to drink, this wine will be perfect for opening your summer party or serving at a high-end picnic, with the Suduiraut name. The majority Sémillon lends mid palate opulence. I like the balance between the acidity and the alcohol. Barrel ageing will give this more delineation and breadth - and potential for a higher score.

Winery Notes

Light yellow in colour with green glints, displays a subtle nose full of promise. Citrus aromas mingle with notes of white flowers and white fruits, producing a fresh, fruit-driven nose. The attack is gentle, persisting on the smooth, fresh palate with flavours of pear, sweet lemon and pomelo. The finish is direct, mineral and fruit-driven, with wonderful length. The character of the cuvée shines through with generosity, density and fruit, with the hint of freshness characteristic of the 2023 vintage.
