Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

The central Italian region of Tuscany is widely understood to be one of the world's most famous and highly regarded wine regions. Monteverro always delivers excellent results, and this is more true than ever in this balanced and classic vintage. Although the 2016 Monteverro is never a terribly territory-driven wine (it's hard to place it from Capalbio, Tuscany, per se), it is a beautifully executed rendition based on a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The bouquet is rich and multidimensional with dark fruit, plum cake, sweet tobacco and sweet baking spice. It is tight and well-assembled, with lasting intensity, yet its power is ultimately reined in by an elegant personality. I tasted bottle 3,121 of 17,929 made.

The star of the lineup is the 2016 Monteverro (60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc). Deep purple-hued, with stunning notes of cassis, dried violets, and toasted spice, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, good acidity, and ripe tannins. It’s showing plenty of oak at the moment, but it has more than enough fruit. Give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 15-20 years.

Like elsewhere in Tuscany, 2017 was a very dry year; even drier than 2012. Some big decisions had to be made but luckily the warm - not sweltering - spring bought the team some time to prepare by minimising the vigour of the vines. The Merlot, plus one block of Cabernet Sauvignon, was picked before 14 August to ensure the wine would retain freshness and have no overripe characters. The rest of the grapes were picked in the first half of September. Like many producers in 2017, Matthieu opted for a shorter maceration time to 'find a good balance of tannins'. The result is a wine with ripe cherry and black fruit aromas and flavours, imbued with an invigorating balsamic freshness. It's perhaps a touch hollow on the mid-palate, lacking some fruit intensity, but the finish is elegant. A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, matured in French oak barrels (60% new) for 20 months.

A true Premier Grand Cru of Maremma, made from the classic Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot and yet with the unmistakable character of the Tuscan coast. An ambitious wine in every respect - the grapes are exclusively from prime locations on our slopes which flow gently to the sea, the wine is aged for about 24 months in barriques from the best coopers (70-80 % new wood) and then for two years in the bottle. This gives it an unparalleled strength and complexity, sophisticated coolness and elegance. Its impressive diversity of bouquets ranging from berries and spicy notes increases year on year.
