Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

Today, Tuscany is home to a wide range of wines, from the traditional to the complex, but all dedicated to excellent flavors and aromas, and maintaining the region's international reputation.

Made with Syrah and Grenache, the Monteverro 2018 Tinata shows a very exotic side in this vintage that went from a cool spring to hot summer. The bouquet has elements of spice, sweet apple, baked plum, cinnamon cake and tea leaf. There really is a lot of sweet and savory spice dangled here over a core of black fruit. The 2018 vintage stands apart in that regard compared to the other vintages (2019 and 2017) also reviewed at this time. I tasted number 933 of 6,111 bottles released.

Winery Notes

Color: Deep dark ruby with touches of purple on the rim. On the nose: Explosion of raspberries and cherry with “Macchia” notes like thyme and lavender with touches of white pepper, lilac and paprika. On the plate: Fresh and structured entrance evolving on a velvety mouthfeel lingering on fresh cut fruit like raspberries, boysenberries with touches of sundried tomatoes and tobacco.
