Sourced from old vineyards in Toro, the 2020 Tina de Toro is shaped by a combination of winemaking techniques and élevage that add layers to the natural power of Tinta de Toro. Oak takes the lead aromatically, followed by dark fruit, light spice, dried herbs and hints of soy sauce and chutney. Rich but contained on the palate, with firm tannins drawn from both fruit and wood, it remains tightly framed today. The finish carries both the imprint of the élevage and the grape. Still youthful by the standards of the house, it should be at its best in three years or more.

Castilla y Leon is essentially a vast plateau, and is extremely dry, with a poor soil structure which one might think would make viticulture difficult, if not impossible. However, Castilla y Leon has plenty of native grape varietals which are able to stretch their roots deep underground, to tap into the moisture and minerals which can be found there.

A harmonious red, though rich and full-bodied, with flavors of blackberry paste, briary herbs and forest floor riding the thick and creamy texture as this wraps around muscular tannins. Fresh and zesty, with milled pepper, anise and paprika on the finish. Drink now through 2036. 7,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.

Colour: Ripe cherry color with ruby reflections. Aroma: Numanthia is expressive and deep, with hints of red berries, smoky notes, garrigue aromas and a background of sweet spices. Mouth: The attack is soft and quickly fills your palate with a great intensity. The velvety and mature tannin beautifully goes along with the generous and voluminous texture. Black fruit such as blueberries and blackcurrants, notes of violet and hints of black pepper, cloves and a tobacco leaf generate complexity and length, surrounded by a good acidity.
