Moscatel, also known as Muscat, is a highly aromatic white grape variety found in many wine regions around the world, including Spain, Portugal, and Italy. This ancient grape is believed to be one of the oldest genetically unmodified grape varieties still in existence. Moscatel wines are renowned for their intensely floral and fruity aromas, featuring notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle, peach, and apricot. The grape’s high sugar content makes it versatile, capable of producing a range of wine styles from dry to sweet, including the famous dessert wines and fortified wines. What makes Moscatel unique is its pronounced and recognizable aroma, which makes it easy to identify in a blind tasting. The grape’s ability to convey a sense of place through its vibrant flavors and aromas, combined with its historical significance, ensures that Moscatel remains a beloved and significant varietal in the world of wine.
