From a west-facing parcel in Aÿ with only 40 centimeters of clay over chalk bedrock, Pouillon’s 2018 Blanc de Blancs Aÿ Les Valnons was disgorged in October 2024 with a minuscule dosage of 0.5 grams per liter, yet it also carries two grams of residual sugar. It bursts with expressive aromas of candied orange zest, ripe citrus, dried fruit, spices and nutty tones. Full-bodied and muscular, it exhibits a gastronomic profile with a broad-shouldered, textural attack that segues into a layered, flavorful mid-palate, laden with vibrant acidity and concluding with a long, enveloping finish. Capturing all the warmth and generosity of the vintage, the grapes were harvested on the final day of August.
